Bankwest and Curtin University, in partnership with the Australian Scholarships Foundation, are pleased to launch a scholarship opportunity to support those living in Western Australia who are currently working for not-for-profit organisations, in order to help build capacity in the Western Australian NFP sector.

Scholarship overview and inclusions

Bankwest and Curtin University are offering 20 full-fee scholarships to undertake either the Graduate Certificate in Project Management or the Graduate Certificate in Business at Curtin University in 2022.

10 x 100% scholarships will be offered for the Graduate Certificate in Project Management (valued at $11,400 each), and 10 x 100% scholarships will be offered for the Graduate Certificate in Business (valued at $15,500 each). This scholarship covers the full tuition cost for these courses. Incidental costs such as travel, accommodation, and course materials, are not included in the scholarship and should be met by the scholarship winner or their supporting not-for-profit organisation.

Applicants should apply for either the Graduate Certificate in Project Management or the Graduate Certificate in Business depending on their area of interest.

Course information

Successful applicants can choose to attend their chosen course online, or face-to-face at the Curtin University campus in Perth, WA, commencing in 2022. The Graduate Certificate in Business can be commenced in Trimester 2 (9 May 2022) or Trimester 3 (5 September 2022). The Graduate Certificate in Project Management must be commenced in Semester 2 (18 July 2022). The full academic calendar can be viewed here. Courses can be completed either full-time or part-time.

Graduate Certificate in Project Management

Project Management is a distinct professional discipline, having its own body of knowledge, skills, tools and techniques. It involves managing a project from inception to completion and the successful attainment of the project objectives. This course provides the opportunity to gain the understanding, knowledge and skills necessary for performing the role of project manager.

This course adopts a generic approach to project management and is applicable to any project in industries such as construction, engineering, education, health, commerce, information technology and research and development.

What you’ll learn:

  • The principles, concepts, tools, techniques and processes of project management
  • How to analyse project management problems and generate solutions to facilitate project success
  • Approaches to decision making in a project environment
  • Communicating effectively with stakeholders
  • Utilising appropriate technologies for the facilitation of project management processes

Graduate Certificate in Business

This course is tailored to give students a firm grounding in the basics of business theory and practice and is designed as a possible entry point to further postgraduate study or as a challenging stand-alone course.  It offers you a foundation in leadership studies, business management and organisational behaviour.

Upon completion, students are encouraged to continue their studies in either the Graduate Diploma in Business or Master of Business Administration.

  • Contemporary business theories, concepts and principles and be able to apply these to add value in a group or organisational environment
  • Effective communication in a variety of modes to gather, advise or influence stakeholders for a desired outcome
  • How to formulate responsible, evidence-based, management and leadership decisions
  • Critically review personal, professional, team and organisational practices for opportunities to innovate.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for the Bankwest/Curtin University WA Leaders Scholarship you must:

  • Be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Be currently employed by an Australian not-for-profit organisation
  • Reside in Western Australia
  • Fulfil Australian Scholarships Foundation’s general eligibility requirements available on our FAQs page
  • Meet the entry criteria for your selected course (see below).

To be eligible for the Graduate Certificate in Project Management you must have a bachelor degree from a recognised tertiary institution or a minimum of five (5) years’ management experience.

To be eligible for the Graduate Certificate in Business you must have a bachelor degree plus a minimum of five (5) years of professional work experience including three (3) years in a managerial capacity. For applicants without an undergraduate degree, you must have a minimum of eight (8) years of professional work experience including five (5) years in a managerial capacity.

Curtin requires all applicants to demonstrate proficiency in English.

All applicants must attach the following to their application:

  • An up-to-date CV/resume clearly showing your prior work experience and roles that you have held
  • A letter of endorsement from your supporting not-for-profit organisation (see #12 of our FAQs for further details)
  • A copy of your bachelor degree certificate and transcript (if applicable, see eligibility criteria above)
