James Toomey

James Toomey is currently the Deputy Secretary of Housing, Disability and District Services at NSW Department of Communities and Justice. He is the former CEO of Mission Australia.

As a qualified social worker with an extensive background in community services, James is client-focused and passionate about transforming the lives of Australians in need.

After almost 12 years at Mission Australia, James joined the NSW Department of Communities and Justice in June 2022. His most recent board director roles include Ability First Australia, Community Options Australia, and Co-Chair of End Street Sleeping Collaboration.

Previously, James was the Operations Director for SkillForce. He was also Assistant Director of Foster Care Associates in the UK.  He holds a Master’s Degree in Social Work and a Master of Business Administration and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
