The Harvard Club of Australia is offering two Fellowships to attend the highly regarded six-day course Strategic Perspectives in Nonprofit Management in July 2023 at the Harvard Business School.

The Harvard Club of Australia Ferris Family Fellowships helps fulfill the increasing demand for managerial skills and strategic decision-making within the not-for-profit sector. The course will assist participants to examine their missions, develop new strategies and improve the effectiveness of their organisations.

The Harvard learning experience

The Strategic Perspectives in Nonprofit Management course is a learning experience that includes faculty presentations, case studies on nonprofit organizations, group exercises, and structured and informal group discussions.

“The content of the course was exceptionally useful; providing case studies across the social sector created by visionary founders, or organisations founded by someone at a grassroots level who just wanted to make a difference in their community. I felt that the case studies examined the similarities and challenges that we all face,” shares Deborah Attard Portughes, CEO of the Womens and Infants Research Foundation and Harvard Club of Australia – Ferris Family Fellowship recipient in 2022.

Heidi Limareff, Chief Executive Officer with Can:Do Group was a recipient of the Harvard Club of Australia non-profit scholarship in 2020 and attended Harvard this year. Heidi shares, “I was incredibly privileged  to be afforded this study opportunity at Harvard. The lessons I brought back to Australia were not only learned from the excellent teaching team, but also by the passionate business leaders from 40 countries around the world.”

Building global networks

During the program participants break into small groups and will work together on challenges that each participant has identified as critical to the success of their respective organizations.

“The greatest single impact was accessing the remarkable peers on the course: spending time with people facing similar challenges and opportunities, sharing stories in a safe and enriching environment, and being challenged on my assumptions,” said Deborah Attard Portughes.

“I have had the opportunity to significantly advance my ability to embrace strategic opportunities and grow a network of amazing global and local colleagues.”

“I am incredibly grateful to the Ferris family for their support of this initiative. It is not often that not-for-profit leaders have access to world-class executive development such as that offered by the Harvard Business School. I would recommend the program to leaders looking to challenge themselves within an incredibly talented cohort and grow in the confidence necessary to lead social impact into an increasingly volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous future,” Matt said.

The Harvard Club of Australia (HCA), in partnership with the Australian Scholarships Foundation, is pleased to once again support not-for-profit leaders with an opportunity to study at Harvard Business School in the United States.
