Our Young Leaders Forum Scholars

Scholar Spotlight YLF

During these uncertain times, our young leaders are being called upon to do more and be more than ever before.

So, to help inspire, nurture and lead our young leaders, once again ASF is partnering with the McKinsey Academy to offer the 2021 Young Leaders Forum (YLF) scholarships. The YLF is a global leadership development program that provides participants with the necessary skills, ways of thinking, and insights to become a better leader in a world of accelerating disruptive change. With a focus on strengths and stretch, YLF develops unique, inspirational, and supportive leaders with the skills to lead themselves and their teams more effectively.

With applications now open for the 2021 Young Leaders Forum Scholarships, we spoke to some of our latest alumni to find out more about their experiences how the YLF has changed their lives.

One year on from completing the YLF, recipient Alan Wu found that his perception of leadership had changed: “The YLF was a distinctive and well-structured opportunity to take a step back from the everyday pressures of work to learn about leading ourselves, leading people and leading organisations.” Alan is the youngest member of the Board of Directors at Oxfam Australia, and continues to improve the organisation’s overall performance, strategic direction, effective governance and leadership.

Angela Lewis from Leeuwin Ocean Adventure Foundation was one of our 2019 recipients. She participated in the YLF at a critical point in her career where she was just starting to transition to being a Captain, and noted that, “completing the YLF allowed me to take some time out to think about myself as a leader under the guidance of the course facilitators; something I don’t ever recall doing before.” Overall, Angela said that, “the knowledge gained from the Young Leaders Forum has helped me to be a better leader through such an unprecedented situation."

Our last featured scholar is Ryan Kiddle, who is a Senior Manager at The Disability Trust. Another 2019 recipient, Ryan shares that his experience in the YLF has since assisted him in supporting others to become resilient in a changing environment. He recalls that the program taught him, “the importance of self-care and reflection in leadership, and the practical strategies that one can put into practice to look after yourself both mentally and physically.”

You too could join the ranks of Alan, Angela and Ryan, and win a Young Leaders Forum Scholarship for 2021. We encourage all emerging NFP leaders to join these likeminded peers for a learning opportunity of a lifetime!
