Australian-American Fullbright Commission

Fulbright Australia is a non-profit organisation, established in Australia through a binational treaty between the Australian and United States governments in 1949 under the auspices of the United States Educational Foundation in Australia (USEFA). The program was initially funded from U.S. Government credits acquired in Australia from the sale of surplus war materials. In 1963, the two governments established the Australian-American Education Foundation as a successor to USEFA, to be funded equally by the two parties. The operational name changed to the Australian-American Fulbright Commission in 2000, and to Fulbright Australia in 2020.

The Fulbright Australia aims to further mutual understanding between the people of Australia and the United States through educational and cultural exchange.

Fulbright Professional Scholarship in Non-Profit Leadership

Fulbright Australia, Perpetual and ASF are pleased to offer the 2022 Fulbright Professional Scholarship in Non-Profit Leadership for the tenth year running.

The Professional Scholarship in Non-Profit Leadership provides a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for an emerging leader in the charitable not-for-profit sector to undertake a program of research and/or professional development in the United States for a period of 3-4 months. Valued at up to $30,000, the scholarship will enable the right candidate to delve into research or personal development that addresses contemporary issues of relevance, innovation, knowledge development, impact on policy and practice in the NFP sector.

2022 applications are now open and close Tuesday 6 July 2021 at 11:59pm AEST.

ASF have supported ten NFP leaders with a Fulbright Professional Scholarship in Non-Profit Leadership since 2013. Our recipients have had an opportunity like none other to improve their skills and knowledge, exchange information with peers in Australia and the United States, as well as join the prestigious alumni of Fulbright Scholars worldwide.

In 2019, ASF, Pollinate and Origin Energy conducted an in-depth study evaluating the impact of the Fulbright Professional Scholarship in Non-Profit Leadership. This research revealed that Scholars are capable of remarkable things upon their return to Australia.
